Description

Tagetes patula

Ildkongen is a tall branching plant that grows to 4′ and produces lots of 1.5-2" flowers right up until frost. The bloom color changes depending on the age of the plant and/or the temperatures. The colors can range from bright fire engine red to orange, to a blended coppery orange-yellow or yellow-red. You can expect different bloom colors on the same plant and for the color to change throughout the season.

    Planting Instructions

    SOWING:

    Transplant: Sow indoors 4-6 weeks before planting out. Transplant when danger of frost has passed. May also be direct sown when soil is warm.

    Germination Requirements: Barely cover as light aids germination

    Days to Germination: Germinates in 4-14 days at  65-75°F.

    GROWING:

    Light Preference: Sun

    Plant Height:   36-48 inches

    Plant Spacing: 6-9 inches for cut flower production

    Pinching: Pinch to encourage branching and more stems.

    Flower Support: Yes, highly recommended

    Days to Bloom: 70-90 days

    HARVEST AND VASE LIFE:

    Yield: 10-15 stems per plant

    Harvest Fresh: Harvest when flowers are just beginning to open, will continue to open up after harvest.

    Expected Vase Life: Expect a vase life of 7-10 days.

    USES: 

    Cut Flower, Edible Flower, Garden Beds, and Beneficial Insect Plantings.
