Going into its third year, this is a selection of rose gold upright stems from Amaranth Sunset Goldilocks (reds, pinks, creams, greens) from Adapative Seeds. This is a "breeding mix" so there may be a mix of colors since the selected rose gold color is not stabilized yet.

They start off as a dusty pink color and then turn to a rose gold color once the seeds are starting to form.

    Planting Instructions

    SOWING:

    Transplant: Direct seed (recommended) - After danger of frost. Transplant - Sow 4-6 weeks before planting out.

    Germination Requirements: Surface sow and do not cover as light is needed for germination. 

    Days to Germination: Germinates in 7-10 days at 70-75°F

    GROWING:

    Light Preference: Sun

    Soil Requirements: Well-drained soil. pH: 6-7 preferred.

    Plant Height:    36-72 inches

    Plant Spacing: 6" for cut flowers, 3-6" for thinner, more manageable stems 

    Pinching: Pinching can help to promote branching and more stems per plant if you are planting further apart.

    Flower Support: Support netting/trellising recommended.

    Days to Bloom: 65-70 days

    Deer Resistant: Generally considered deer-resistant, but it is not 100% deer-proof. 

    HARVEST AND VASE LIFE:

    Yield: If pinched - 3-6 stems per plant

    Harvest Fresh: When at least 3/4 of the flowers on the inflorescence are open.

    Harvest Dry: Harvest for dried use when seed has begun to set and flowers feel firm. Hang upright varieties to dry.

    Expected Vase Life: 7-10 days

    Seed Saving: Harvest dried flower heads in late summer/fall. Let the dry and then shake, rub, or thresh them over a container to release the tiny black or tan seeds. The seeds can be cleaned by passing them through a screen, window mesh, or by blowing away the chaff. Once cleaned and dried, store in a cool, dry, dark location.
