Coreopsis tinctoria

This is a mix of bicolored quilled and regular petals that originally came from a selection of a plant with  burgundy/ivory quilled flowers (second photo). Have fun with this mix and see what beautiful color combinations bloom for you.

Coreopsis can be used in bloom or bud form for extra sparkle and texture to bouquets and arrangements.

Coreopsis is a hardy annual and this variety blooms at 3-4 feet tall when planted in the early spring (4-6 weeks before last frost)

For you warmer climate growers, it's worth a try to plant them in the fall to see if they overwinter or plant them out in very early spring February/March when your soil is workable.

    Planting Instructions

    SOWING:

    Transplant: Start indoors 6-8 weeks before planting out. Plant out in the cool weather of early spring. Fall plant in mild winter areas, zones 8-10. Can be direct sown in early spring and again in mid-spring; fall sow in mild winter areas. 

    Germination Requirements: Leave uncovered as light is needed to germination

    Days to Germination: Germinates in 3-7 days at  60-70°F

    Plant Height:    30-48 inches

    Plant Spacing: 6 inches for cut flowers

    Pinching: Not needed

    Flower Support: Yes, net or stake to keep plants upright

    Days to Bloom: 65-70 days

    HARVEST AND VASE LIFE:

    Yield: 5-7 stems per plant

    Harvest Fresh: Harvest when 1 or 2 flowers are open per stem. Flowers will continue to open in the vase. You can harvest if the bud is cracked and you start to see petal coloring.
