The Flower Connection Workshop August 1st - Variety Selection and Breeding
Hardy Annual
Description
Join Cassie for an afternoon and evening of flowers, learning, and genuine connection in the beautiful town of Corinth, Vermont
The Afternoon: Meet + Learn + Connect
Beginning at 1pm, we’ll start with introductions and time to get to know one another.
Learn
Then we’ll tour the Jig-Bee home field and talk about what’s currently happening on the farm. Learn about the seasonal rhythm of running a flower seed farm in Vermont. We’ll walk through the year month by month—from winter planning and seed sales, to spring sowing and planting, to summer growing, fall harvest, and the busy season of cleaning and packaging seed.
Each workshop will feature a seasonal focus topic:
August 1 - Variety Selection + Breeding Projects - Take a behind-the-scenes look at how new flower varieties come to life. We’ll talk through what I look for when selecting varieties to grow, trial, and save seed from—including color, vigor, stem length, productivity, and overall garden performance. I’ll also share current breeding projects happening at Jig-Bee, how selections are made over time, and the patience (and surprises) involved in creating something new. Perfect for growers curious about seed saving, variety development, or adding more intention to what they grow.
Attendees will also get to tag their favorite flower in our breeding beds.
Each session will focus on one featured topic, but there will be plenty of room for questions beyond that topic as well.
Connect
In the spirit of building community, we’ll spend time sharing and supporting one another.
In this portion of the workshop, each participant will have the opportunity to ask the group one question—business, farming, gardening, personal, or anything else on your mind. The group will offer ideas, encouragement, and experiences in return.
Each person will have 5 minutes for their question and group responses (yes, we’ll use a timer!).
Enjoy
We’ll close out the day with a visit to my growing site at Crossmolina Farm. We’ll take a tour of the farm and continue answering your questions about the business of farming and growing fresh flowers and seeds.
We’ll continue the conversation while enjoying a tasty meal and live music at Crossmolina’s world-famous Pizza Night.
Please Note - Dinner is not included in your workshop ticket price. Guests will be responsible for purchasing their own food and drinks. Estimated cost is $20–25 per person.
Partners, friends, and children are welcome to join us at 5:30pm for the dinner portion of the evening. Please let me know how many additional guests will be attending dinner with you.
